Hello. Welcome to THE NOLA KOSHER CREOLE QUEEN. My name is REVA LUPIN, and I am pleased to introduce my latest site to you.
First, I will give you some background on me, and what led me to begin this Facebook site. I am a native of
New Orleans, born to my dear mother, Yetta, of blessed memory, an Orthodox Jewish southern belle from
Mobile, Alabama, and my father Albert, of blessed memory, who emigrated from Romania in the early 20th
century. I am a part-time teacher, practicing attorney, a mom, a grandmother, and love being Jewish, cooking Jewish foods, and reliving the memories and traditions that were so very important to my parents.
My parents lived in Mobile after their marriage, then, decided to move to New Orleans where my
dad and his brothers opened a business on the corner of now famous Canal St. and Chartres, called the Marine Exchange, a successful business that sold supplies to ships that came into port, and uniforms and
supplies to armed services.
In the meantime, my parents began their family, four children in a row, then a few years later, another son, and many years later, I came along. I was the baby of this very Orthodox Jewish, loving, and close family, raised by a hard-working father, and a mother who lived for tending to, and cooking for, her precious children and husband, and eventually, the Jewish community!
Though my mother had more than enough on her "plate," when someone complimented her chopped liver or hand-made gefilte fish, or another of her "signature" dishes, a container made its way to their home or business. She never had a food business, and never expected anything in return. The simple knowledge that she made others happy by enjoying her foods was all she ever wanted.
As my siblings grew up, went to college or married, I was fortunate enough to spend endless hours watching and helping my mother cook her delicious foods which combined the Eastern European recipes
from my father's family, with my mother's deeply southern influence, always strictly Kosher. The results were heavenly!! Following in their tradition, I launch THE NOLA KOSHER CREOLE QUEEN.
In this site, I will discuss growing up in New Orleans, Kosher; Creole and Cajun Kosher recipes, how to make southern dishes Kosher, by changing certain ingredients in your recipe. You would be amazed how
easily one can convert Shrimp Creole into Chicken Creole, and make it 100% certified Kosher!
We have developed our own brand of Creole and Cajun seasonings and packaged items, as well as unique
gift baskets and boxes filled with New Orleans foods, recipes, art, clothing, kitchen items, souvenirs, books and magazines, T-shirts and more, carefully tailored to your needs, whether you are sending holiday wishes or a Shiva condolence. We will also offer Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest themed items and gift boxes, as well as items from the countless other festivals here in New Orleans and the deep South. I jokingly say that post-Katrina, there is a festival here almost every weekend!!
We look forward to hearing from those who live here, have visited here, or plan to visit soon.
Shalom Y'all!!
